"How am I going to raise my children in a city like S\u00e3o Paulo?" That was the question Adriana Lobo, executive director of the Iji Institute (Children's Gardens Institute), asked herself years ago when the idea for the Kindergarten project began to emerge.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently leading an organization that promotes the management of projects and programs that transform the lives of young people through innovation, technology, education, entrepreneurship, culture, art, science, and sports, Adriana has transformed her personal and professional experience into concrete actions that positively impact the lives of children and the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alumni RenovaBR has demonstrated throughout its history that caring for early childhood and youth goes beyond the family sphere, encompassing public policy, urban planning, and citizenship. Her dedication to this topic began when she encountered urban spaces designed for children while traveling abroad. Since then, observing her children's experiences in her own neighborhood, Adriana has drawn inspiration from abroad to map and identify gaps in the existing child-friendly spaces around her. This initiative gave rise to the Kindergartens project, which combines education, culture, and urban mobility with practical early childhood experiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Impact of Kindergartens <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

"In a quadrangle of 10 streets and buildings, I mapped 14,000 children who lived in the neighborhood and whom I didn't see on the streets and squares. This was in addition to the 21,000 children who joined when I included those who came to the neighborhood occasionally. With the map ready, I began creating a support and social network with other mothers, developing a plan so that the children could walk and play safely in the squares and streets," explains Adriana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

O Kindergartens<\/em> <\/a>has established itself as an innovative project that connects families, government agencies, and civil society to create more welcoming environments for children. The initiative values public spaces such as squares and streets, redefining them as places for coexistence, learning, and active citizenship. According to Adriana, caring for this stage of life is only possible with the involvement of intersectoral stakeholders and municipal departments. "I like to think that I was able to help, together with other mothers and fathers, forming a collective of people committed to working to improve that area," she notes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the challenges faced by mothers and families, Adriana highlights the lack of safety, excessive commuting time, the lack of quality daycare, and the need for more welcoming public spaces. For her, projects that directly impact local communities, such as parks, schools, and cultural centers, can transform the lives of thousands of children, providing opportunities to play, learn, and develop in a safe and stimulating environment. The Iji Institute (Youth Innovation Institute) seeks to engage government and civil society to ensure these initiatives have a real and lasting impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"The coordination with public authorities is complex and bureaucratic. Even so, the Institute is constantly reinventing itself and seeking new collaborators," she explains. Its work strengthens the presence of women in leadership and inspires new generations to recognize the transformative potential of politics and active citizenship through initiatives such as the "City Gardens" project, which encourages mobility and citizenship; "Don't Be Another Victim," which works to prevent violence in public schools; and the project "How a Biological Body Becomes a Social Being," which focuses on mental health in early childhood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognized with the Human Rights and Citizenship Seal in 2022 and 2023, Adriana exemplifies how dedication to early childhood and community engagement can generate concrete results, impacting lives and strengthening public policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
