RenovaBR leader and mayor of São Vicente (SP), Kayo Amado is among those invited to the 12th mission of the National Front of Mayors (FNP) in Barcelona, Spain. 

The mission includes the largest international delegation of the entity, composed of 95 mayors, secretaries and managers, focused on exchanging experiences on urban planning, innovation and solutions for smart cities. The event also includes participation in the Smart City Expo World Congress, one of the most important global congresses on smart cities and sustainability. 

Kayo Amado’s presence demonstrates the ongoing need to seek innovative solutions and measures for sustainable urban planning. “After being one of the five mayors with the highest number of votes in Brazil, I was invited to be part of the delegation. It is a sensational initiative and I am very honored to be part of this group,” said the mayor.

During the conference, Kayo highlighted the learning about public safety technologies, such as monitoring cameras and surveillance totems, which have already been incorporated in São Vicente. “The innovations in the area of public safety are impressive. We saw a stand with a super-updated monitoring totem, with a wide variety of cameras, including visible models and those with rotating lights. In São Vicente, we already have some of these resources, and the government of the state of São Paulo has also started to implement them in the center of the capital. We continue to follow global trends to improve quality of life and public safety, always seeking to bring more technology to our city,” he added.

Tactical urbanism was also a source of inspiration for the mayor, who reported the application of ideas seen in Barcelona on Martim Afonso Street, in São Vicente. “Every year, Martim Afonso Street was closed off with sawhorses and cones, and that was it. After seeing how Barcelona did it, we started closing the street with benches and flowerpots, inspired by the superblocks there, where tactical urbanism facilitates coexistence and life in public spaces. This style was adopted and, over time, we made an even more beautiful intervention, transforming Martim Afonso into a space for socializing, accessible to all. It is something that we work to take to other parts of the city, creating public spaces for socializing. So, we use, share and give new meaning to good ideas,” concluded Mayor Kayo Amado.
