Re-elected in the first round with 78,391 votes, Renato Carvalho reaffirms his commitment to efficient management, innovation and investment in public education. With a career marked by the discipline acquired at the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN) and specializations in Law, Comptrollership and Auditing, the mayor of Araguari brought to the municipal administration a focus on data, efficiency and strategic planning.
“In 2018, I realized that municipal public administration was very far from the reality of the Federal Government, both in bureaucracy and in data management and efficiency. I saw that I could contribute to the city where I was born and I prepared myself for that”, he recalled.
The transition to public life was a huge challenge. Without a traditional political career, Renato decided to train himself and found at RenovaBR the opportunity to deepen his knowledge of public management.
“I found out about RenovaBR in a news article and signed up. I went through the selection process and completed the training. When 2020 arrived, I decided to apply. It was a big challenge, because I didn’t live in the city and wasn’t well-known, but I faced it all with conviction,” says Renato.
Management focused on transparency and efficiency
Since the beginning of his administration, Renato Carvalho identified that one of the main challenges of public management was low productivity and bureaucracy. For him, the municipal administration needed to advance in efficiency, evidence-based management and employee training.
“Productivity in municipal public administration is still very low. We need to improve this, train our employees to work with data and optimize processes. This has a direct impact on the quality of the services we deliver to the population,” explains the mayor.
In light of this, his administration invested heavily in computerization and debureaucratization, creating a system of transparency and integrity to facilitate the population's access to municipal data. In addition, Renato reinforced the importance of ethical conduct within the municipal administration. “We are investing in the IT area to create a system of integrity and compliance, in addition to strengthening the transparency of public processes,” he stressed.
Advances in education
Among the main milestones of his administration, Renato highlights the advances in education and health. In education, one of the most innovative projects was the creation of financial incentives to increase the rate of childhood vaccination. Amid a period of low vaccination uptake in Brazil, his administration integrated health and education, offering a 14th salary to schools that reached the target of 90% of vaccinated children. The result was a significant increase in vaccination coverage, which reached 98.5% in 2023 and is expected to reach 99% in 2024.
“We realized that unvaccinated children were mainly in the outskirts of the city. Since our schools are also in these areas, we decided to join forces. The result was exceptional,” he said.
Another innovative project was the implementation of 'FaceSchool', a system for monitoring school dropouts. With a dashboard updated in real time, Renato can monitor student attendance and take quick action. “Today, if the attendance rate at a school drops below 80%, we call the principal to find out what is happening. This monitoring has been essential in combating school dropouts,” says Renato Carvalho.
Starting in 2025, the commitment to full-time education will be expanded. All new vacancies in the municipal network will be exclusively for full-time students, ensuring better learning and more opportunities for students. “We want Araguari to be a reference in education in the country. To do this, in addition to literacy, we need to prepare our students for the future of the job market,” he concludes.
