In partnership with the UM BRASIL channel and the Revista Problemas Brasileiros – initiatives of the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP), RenovaBR conducted an interview with André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, ambassador and designated president of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). 

The conversation, led by political scientist Humberto Dantas, addressed key issues on the global climate agenda, such as the challenges of economic denial of environmental policies, climate finance, Brazil's international credibility as a leader in the Paris Agreement, diplomatic strategies for consensus-building, climate justice, and private sector engagement in the green transition.

Meeting in Belém reinforces Brazil's strategic role in climate solutions

Scheduled for November of this year, COP30 will be held in Belém, Pará, and will bring together diverse global leaders to define directions for tackling climate change. Furthermore, countries must define pathways that will enable the collection of US$1.3 trillion earmarked for climate mitigation and adaptation. 

For André Corrêa do Lago, it is crucial to include the climate agenda in all investment flows to accelerate the transition. Still, he acknowledges that negotiations are challenging and that there are differences between countries regarding resource allocation. 

The current president also emphasizes that COP30 will be an opportunity for Brazil to consolidate its position in sustainable solutions, paving the way for attracting investments from strategic sectors and generating economic advances based on a sustainable agenda.
